A Benld woman is suing a Benld business owner and the business itself for damages in excess of $50,000, claiming she was a victim of “unwanted contact of an inappropriate and sexual” nature while she was a patron at the business. The suit, filed by Wendy Broderick, names Terry D. Plovich and TJ’s Enterprises of Benld, Inc., as defendants. The three-count complaint claims Plovich placed his hands on the plaintiff’s buttocks during a June 26, 2014, incident at the store. Broderick claims to have sustained pain of body and mind as a result of the alleged incident, and to have incurred medical bills and experience loss of income she would otherwise have been able to earn for which she seeks unspecified damages in excess of $50,000. Count II of the complaint alleges Plovich “maliciously and willfully” struck Broderick on her buttocks with the intent to do harm. Count III alleges negligence on the part of TJ’s Enterprises in that it allegedly subjected a customer to unwanted sexual contact from one of its employees, allowed employees to engage in unwanted sexual contact of a harassing and intimidating nature with customers, and retained employees who had engaged in inappropriate contact with a customer.

November 24, 2025By
BenGil Staff
The Macoupin County Clerk, Recorder, and Elections Office will temporarily relocate across the street to the Macoupin County Voting Center, located at 227 E. First South in Carlinville, beginning Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
The move is necessary to accommodate HVAC system renovations in the Macoupin County Courthouse. The temporary relocation is expected to last until mid-January 2026.
During this time, all regular services — including vital records, recordings, elections, and general clerk functions — will continue to be available at the Voting Center. Office hours and contact information will remain the same.
However, due to limited space during the renovation, public searching and certain in-person services may be restricted. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the many online services offered through the Clerk’s website, including:
- Searching and ordering vital records
- Accessing property and land records
- Viewing election information and forms
- Checking registration and voter status
“We appreciate everyone’s patience as we make these necessary improvements to the Courthouse,” said Macoupin County Clerk Pete Duncan. “Our goal is to continue serving the public efficiently and safely, whether in person or online.”
Residents can visit www.macoupincountyclerk.com, call 217-854-3214, text 217-439-4499, or email elections@macoupincountyil.gov or recorder@macoupincountyil.gov for updates, online resources, and additional information.
