LAWSUITS

A Gillespie couple is suing a rural Gillespie man for damages in excess of $50,000 for injuries they claim to sustained in a Dec. 23, 2016, vehicular crash west of Gillespie. According to the suit, Larry and Bennie Secor were injured when the vehicle Larry Secor was driving collided with a vehicle driven by the defendant, Billy J. Malloy of rural Gillespie. Secor’s wife, Bennie Secor, reportedly was a passenger in the Secor vehicle. The suit claims the accident occurred when Malloy’s southbound vehicle pulled onto Illinois Route 16 from Spanish Needle Road into the path of Secor’s eastbound vehicle at about 4:45 p.m. The suit claims Malloy was negligent in that he allegedly disobeyed a stop sign at the intersection, failed to keep a proper lookout for other vehicles, failed to reduce the speed of his vehicle when he saw or should have seen the Secor vehicle approaching, and driving his vehicle at a speed that was too great for conditions. Both plaintiffs claim to sustained injuries to their back, neck, shoulders and body as a result of the accident. Macoupin County Clerk, Recorder & Elections Office temporarily relocating due to courthouse renovations

Published

on

The Macoupin County Clerk, Recorder, and Elections Office will temporarily relocate across the street to the Macoupin County Voting Center, located at 227 E. First South in Carlinville, beginning Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

The move is necessary to accommodate HVAC system renovations in the Macoupin County Courthouse. The temporary relocation is expected to last until mid-January 2026.

During this time, all regular services — including vital records, recordings, elections, and general clerk functions — will continue to be available at the Voting Center. Office hours and contact information will remain the same.

However, due to limited space during the renovation, public searching and certain in-person services may be restricted. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the many online services offered through the Clerk’s website, including:

  • Searching and ordering vital records
  • Accessing property and land records
  • Viewing election information and forms
  • Checking registration and voter status

“We appreciate everyone’s patience as we make these necessary improvements to the Courthouse,” said Macoupin County Clerk Pete Duncan. “Our goal is to continue serving the public efficiently and safely, whether in person or online.”

Residents can visit www.macoupincountyclerk.com, call 217-854-3214, text 217-439-4499, or email elections@macoupincountyil.gov or recorder@macoupincountyil.gov  for updates, online resources, and additional information.
