LAWSUITS

Janis K. Nussman, as trustee of the Janis K. Nussman Revocable Living Trust, is suing John Pickett, Gillespie, for $9,965.27, plus attorney fees and court costs, claiming the defendant owes the judgment after defaulting on a contract-for-deed agreement.  According to the suit, Pickett entered into a contract-for-deed agreement on July 15, 2010, for the purchase of real estate located in the 600 block of South Macoupin Street in Gillespie. The contract called for 180 monthly payments of $510.47 each. From December 2016 through June this year, however, Pickett allegedly failed to make full monthly payments on the contract. Pickett later relinquished the property on July 14, according to the suit. The plaintiff claims Pickett owes $11,552.35 for missed payments, late fees, attorney fees and court costs from the time he retained the property, plus $18,412.92 for alleged damages to the property and replacement cost for items and fixtures allegedly removed from the home.

Pride Cleaning and Restoration, Inc., St. Louis, is suing Marsha Bridges, Mount Olive, for $23,818.63, claiming Bridges unlawfully converted an insurance check intended to pay the plaintiff for her own use.  The four-count lawsuit alleges breach of contract, unjust enrichment, conversion of an instrument and common law conversion. According to the suit, a fire occurred at Bridges’ mobile home in the 600 block of East Walnut Street in Gillespie on Feb. 24, 2016. On March 10, 2016, Bridges allegedly entered into a contract with Pride Cleaning and Restoration, pledging to direct her insurance company, State Farm Insurance, to pay the claim directly to the plaintiff. The suit claims the plaintiff took Bridges’ personal property and professionally cleaned all personal property not declared a total loss by State Farm. The plaintiff allegedly submitted an invoice on April 13 to both State Farm and Bridges. State Farm subsequently sent a check made payable to Pride Cleaning and Restoration, Inc. to Bridges in September 2016. The suit alleges that instead of forwarding the check to the plaintiff, Bridges directed the insurance company to reissue the claim with a check made payable to her. The plaintiff claims Bridges has since refused demands for payment. The suit seeks a judgment of $18,608.25 for the original contract, plus $5,210.38 late fees of two percent per month and $2,200 in attorney fees and court costs. Additionally, the suit seeks a court order for late fees of two percent per month from the date of judgment until the time the judgment is paid in full.

Connie Opper, Carlinville, has filed a forcible entry and detainer complaint against Lorrie Anderson, Carlinville, seeking $557.50 in alleged unpaid rent, plus possession of residential premises located in the 300 block of South Oak Street in Carlinville.

Macoupin County Clerk, Recorder & Elections Office temporarily relocating due to courthouse renovations

Published

on

The Macoupin County Clerk, Recorder, and Elections Office will temporarily relocate across the street to the Macoupin County Voting Center, located at 227 E. First South in Carlinville, beginning Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

The move is necessary to accommodate HVAC system renovations in the Macoupin County Courthouse. The temporary relocation is expected to last until mid-January 2026.

During this time, all regular services — including vital records, recordings, elections, and general clerk functions — will continue to be available at the Voting Center. Office hours and contact information will remain the same.

However, due to limited space during the renovation, public searching and certain in-person services may be restricted. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the many online services offered through the Clerk’s website, including:

  • Searching and ordering vital records
  • Accessing property and land records
  • Viewing election information and forms
  • Checking registration and voter status

“We appreciate everyone’s patience as we make these necessary improvements to the Courthouse,” said Macoupin County Clerk Pete Duncan. “Our goal is to continue serving the public efficiently and safely, whether in person or online.”

Residents can visit www.macoupincountyclerk.com, call 217-854-3214, text 217-439-4499, or email elections@macoupincountyil.gov or recorder@macoupincountyil.gov  for updates, online resources, and additional information.
