Andy Manar Makes State Senate Bid Official
Manar files petitions with the State Board of Elections
SPRINGFIELD, IL- Andy Manar (D – Bunker Hill) made his intentions to run in the 48th State Senate District official on Wednesday with the filing of required paperwork to be placed on the ballot in November of 2012. Manar submitted 2,300 petition signatures, all representing individuals supporting his candidacy. 1,000 signatures are required to be placed on the ballot.
“I am humbled by the overwhelming support I’ve received throughout the 48th District over the last three months of listening to voters and circulating petitions,” said Manar. “The process of collecting signatures was no easy task and I’m very grateful to all the volunteers and supporters who helped me go knock on doors to make this become a reality. It is this type of grassroots effort that I look forward to continuing throughout my campaign.”
Petition drives spanned many different communities within the six counties that make up the district both rural and urban. Supporters, labor organizations, community leaders, friends and family all joined to help Manar achieve his goal.
“I’m very proud that the signatures submitted to the State Board of Elections represent grassroots support from nearly every community both large and small that I aim to represent in the Senate,” added Manar.
Manar has been endorsed in the Senate race by the AFL-CIO, Southwestern Illinois Building and Construction Trades Council, the Decatur Building and Construction Trades Council, IBEW Local #146 in Decatur, the Illinois Pipe Trades Association, the Illinois State Council of Machinists, the Illinois State Council of Operating Engineers, SEIU Local #73, SEIU Illinois Council, the Southern and Central Illinois Laborer’s District Council, the Southwestern Illinois Laborer’s District Council, and the Madison County Democratic Party.
Manar and his wife Trista reside in Bunker Hill three blocks from his childhood home and have three children: Abbie (6), Will (4) and Ben (2).
The 48th Senate District includes Christian and Montgomery Counties as well as parts of Macon, Macoupin, Madison and Sangamon Counties.
