Katie Kirk presents $7,500 to Macoupin Military Support Group.

The Maurices Main Street Model Search’s purpose is to find a dozen real women in all sizes each year to represent Maurice’s in their upcoming campaigns.  One of the women chosen for 2012 was Carlinville native Katie Kirk.  Katie has always been interested in becoming a professional model, but never thought it was a realistic goal.  After seeing a billboard for the model search she decided to go for her dream.

The process began with voters helping to narrow down nearly 1,500 submissions to just 100 contestants.  From there contestants had to submit a video which Maurices judges, including celebrity stylist and fashion designer Christopher Straub had to narrow the field from 100 to 20 contestants.  Katie, chosen as one of the top 20 was then flown to a casting call in Minneapolis.  While in Minneapolis the women had their hair and makeup done and had their clothes picked out for them.  Katie said it was fun but also a lot of work.  She also had a 30 minute interview with the judges.

Katie later received a call telling her she was one of the 12 women chosen for the 2012 model search.  She was flown to Miami in Florida for a week of photo shoots.  These photos will be used for national exposure at Maurices locations, maurices.com and through mailers and social media.  Katie was also awarded a 1,500 dollar Maurices gift card and was able to choose a charitable organization to receive 7,500 dollars.  Katie chose the Macoupin Military Support Group for her charity as its work is near to her heart.

On March 16th, 2013 Katie had an open house at the Litchfield Maurices where friends and family could come to congratulate Katie as well as see posters of her hanging in the store.  It was during this event that Maurices and Katie presented a check to the Macoupin Military Support Group for $7,500 dollars.

The Macoupin Military Support Group started in November 2006. The mission is to provide support to Macoupin Military persons, stationed overseas or in hospitals, and their families. The group bolsters morale by means of letters; care packages and offers encouragement to their families.  This donation will help the group to continue their mission.  Currently, the group has around 30 care packages going out monthly and a portion of the donation will help towards postage and supplies for the boxes.

If you know of a military person serving overseas that is from Macoupin County that is not receiving a care package from us please let us know so we can get him/her on our list.  If you would like to help pack boxes the group meets at 500 West Main Street in Carlinville (across from Casey’s) the second Tuesday of each month starting at 6:00 p.m.  A business meeting follows at 7:00 p.m.  Everyone is welcome to come to one or both.

If you would like more information about the group please contact us at Macoupingmsg@gmail.com or call Christine Goldstein at 217-854-5298.  Our mail address is P.O. Box 322 Carlinville, IL.  Also, please check out our website http://www.carlinvilleonline.com/mmsg/ and Facebook page for more information.
