All the presents are unwrapped and the holiday visitors are gone, it’s time for basketball. In what has become a post-Christmas event, the Carlinville Holiday Tournament starts today and will wrap up with the title games on Tuesday, December 30.
The Miners are hoping to be a top contender for the Holiday Tournament title with their 4-5 record led by the Price brothers, Evan and Nick. Gillespie leads the Green Pool that includes Raymond Lincolnwood (4-6), Carlinville (1-6) and Bunker Hill (0-9). On the other side of the boys’ tournament, Litchfield (6-1) heads the Red Pool that consists of EAWR (3-6), Staunton (3-7) and Mt. Olive (0-6).

The Miners will then play Bunker Hill on Saturday, December 27 at 3:30 p.m. and then Lincolnwood on Monday, December 29 at 8:00 p.m.
In the girls’ bracket, the Lady Miners are grouped with Bunker Hill, Greenfield and Carlinville with their first game scheduled for 5 p.m. today against Carlinville. The girls will then battle Bunker Hill tomorrow, December 27, at 2 p.m. in the middle school gym. The last pool play game for the Lady Miners will be on Monday, December 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the middle school gym where they are matched up against Greenfield-Northwestern.
This year’s tournament features a combined 16 teams beginning today at 12:30 p.m. with a girls’ match-up between Bunker Hill and Greenfield-Northwestern. The boys’ division consists of eight teams while the other eight teams comprise the girls’ division. Both divisions are formatted into a pool play bracket.
Teams will play three pool play games before playing their place game on Tuesday. The 6:30 p.m. girls’ championship game and 8:00 p.m. boys’ championship games will highlight the tournament on Tuesday evening, December 30.
The host Carlinville Cavaliers are the defending boys champions while the Litchfield Lady Panthers are the defending girls champions.
