The 42nd Mt. Olive Invitational Wrestling Tourney will be held on January 7, 2017, with wrestling scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Teams entered are Carlyle, Carlinville, Chatham Glenwood JV, Edwardsville JV, Hillsboro, Metro East Lutheran, Mt. Olive, Mt. Zion JV, Pinckneyville, Rochester, St. Thomas More, Whitfield and Wood River.
Over the years Whitfield has won five tournaments; Triad, Highland, and Argenta Oreana have won four tournaments; Benton, Mt. Olive, Hillsboro, and Vandalia have won three; Litchfield, Mt. Pulaski, and Pinckneyville have won two tournaments, Alton, Auburn, and Carlinville have each won one tourney.
The teams have had the following number of individual champions: Whitfield 53, Mt. Olive 50, Hillsboro 49, Highland 36, Litchfield 34, Wood River 27, Vandalia 25, Benton 24, Pinckneyville 24, Carlinville 22, Triad 20, Argenta Oreana 16, Auburn 14, Alton 13, Carrollton 11, ISD 11, Shelbyville 10, Carlyle 8, Marquette 8, Catlin 7, Pleasant Plains 7, Glenwood, 6, Mt. Pulaski 5, Rochester 5, Mt. Zion 4, Taylorville 4, Harrisburg 4, North Greene 3, Quincy Notre Dame 2, U High 2, and Nokomis 2, Jerseyville 1, and Sparta 1.
Whitfield won the 2016 tournament with 232 points and four champions. Second was a Harrisburg with three champions and 183 points. Carlinville was third with 167 points and 2 champions. Champions for Whitfield were Dylann Shotwell at 138, Kurtis Hahn at 170, Noah Elmore at 182, and Max Darrah at 220. Harrisburg had champions at 120 and 126 with Kyle and Kody Cavendar, and at 285 with Chase McDaniel. Carlinville had champions at 132 and 160 with Kyle and Jacob Dixon. Wood River also had three champions, Drew Sobol at 106, Zac Blasioli at 152, and Zach Kincade at 195. Other champions were Connor Neville at 113 from Pinckneyville, and Maxx Fritz at 145 from Mt, Olive.
