Garrett “Whitey” Frakes, 93 of Carlinville, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at home in Carlinville with his family by his side. Whitey was born on October 12, 1931, in Middletown, IL, a son of Otie Cleveland and Rose Ellen Hamil Frakes.
He married Darlene Newby on December 7,1957, in Middletown. Everyone knew Garrett as “Whitey.” He loved to talk, play horseshoes with his buddy Jimmy Scheldt, tinker around in his shanty, fix small engines, rabbit hunt with his beloved beagles, and fish.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially if there was food involved. Whitey always brought his own eating utensils and, in the past, even carried in his own tray to place his plate and utensils. He also loved visiting with the guys at Dave B’s Deer Processing.
Garrett “Whitey” is survived by two sons, Allen (Peggy) Frakes of Palmyra and Rick Frakes of Carlinville; grandchildren, Travis “Kristy” Frakes, Mason Frakes, Jakoda (Joseph) Zinkan, and Tiffany (companion, Josef Konneker) Frakes; great-grandchildren, Kaden and Brock Sonneborn, Payton and Hunter Frakes; and niece, Sharon Rohlfs of Springfield.
Garrett “Whitey” was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, Darlene Frakes, and sister, Betty Rohlfs.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Plainview Baptist Church, Plainview from 10 am to noon. Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Plainview Baptist Church with Pastor Bob Stoker presiding. Burial will follow in Shipman Cemetery, Shipman.
Memorials may be made to the family. Davis-Anderson Funeral Homes, Carlinville is in charge of arrangements.
