Gerry Jay Moss, 71, of Phoenix, AZ, formerly of Staunton, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Honor Health John C. Lincoln Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. He was born on October 8, 1953 in Kennett, MO, the son of Dorothy Imajean (Ursery) Moss and the late J.W. Moss. He married Glenda Faye Hefer on December 27, 1975, and she survives.
In his early years, Gerry lived in East St. Louis and attended Washington Park Baptist Church. He moved to Staunton in 1969 and met Glenda there. After graduating from Southern Illinois University with a degree in business administration with a specialty in accounting, he and Glenda moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1981.
He found employment with Southwest Forest Industries as an accountant. Glenda started her career as a schoolteacher in the Paradise Valley School District and eventually retired from there. In 1990, Gerry started a graphic design company and eventually retired from there with his company garnishing several national and international awards in computer graphics.
Gerry and Glenda attended various churches in Phoenix where they served together in children’s ministries. The Lord led them to Redeemer Reformed Baptist Church during the COVID outbreak. There, he and Glenda served in various capacities. In 2023, Gerry was ordained a Deacon and served in that capacity until he was called home to be with the Lord.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Moss; his mother, Jean Moss; his sister and brother-in-law, Sherry & Frank Turner; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara and Brian Kuckuck; a nephew, Bill (Maria-Encarna) Turner; and a niece, Amanda (Dr. John) Phipps.
Besides his father, Gerry was preceded in death by his son, Steven James Moss.
Friends may call from 9 to 10 AM on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton with burial following in Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton.
