Paul John Zimmerman, 92 of Staunton, formerly of Granite City, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at his residence in Staunton.
Born on February 22, 1933, in Morrilton, Arkansas, Paul was the beloved son of the late Paul Peter and Christine (Pfeifer) Zimmerman. He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 71 years, Betty (Morrison) Zimmerman, whom he married on November 21, 1953.
Paul is survived by his wife, Betty L. Zimmerman of Staunton; his son, Paul (Debbie) Zimmerman of Granite City; his two daughters, Karen (Michael) May of Sawyerville and Lisa Zimmerman (Butch Revelle) of Mt. Olive; five grandchildren, Matthew May, Melony Troeckler (Matthew Tennill), Phillip, Michael, and Sandra Rongey; and nineteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Lucy Beil of Collinsville and Tina (Jim) Brubaker of Colorado; one brother, Ron “Butch” (Sherrel) Zimmerman of Cape Girardeau, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Emil Zimmerman; his sister, Albertine Beard; his sister-in-law, Angie Zimmerman; and two brothers-in-law, John Beil and Z.L. Beard.
Paul proudly served his country in the United States Army’s Yukon Command in Fairbanks, Alaska. He spent many dedicated years working alongside his brother, Emil Zimmerman Sr., as co-owners of Granite Roofing & Siding Co. Paul found great joy in fishing, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. He especially treasured his bond with his neighbor and close friend, the late Gene Wimberly.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 am, followed by funeral services at 11 am on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Pastor Randy Morrison will officiate. Interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton.
