Addison Bryant pitched her seventh shut-out Tuesday evening in a makeup game in Gillespie when the high school softball team (16-2) beat Triad 1-0. Bryant posted 19 strikeouts and no walks while holding Triad hitless.
Mackenzie Kasarda had two of Gillespie’s four hits in the game and had the team’s only RBI with a sixth-inning single. Bryant singled in the sixth to start the inning and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ally Clay.
Triad handed third base to Bryant with a past ball, then Kasarda knocked a single to the left side of the field getting Bryant across home plate for the game’s lone run.
Gillespie followed Tuesday’s performance with a 12-0 shutout victory over Pana on Wednesday behind Sydney Henrichs on the mound. The Miners then fell to Highland 5-6 in extra innings on Thursday and are set to host Jerseyville on Friday. Next week, the Miners host Staunton on Monday, Litchfield on Tuesday and Roxana on Friday.
