Participants, sponsors and volunteers enjoyed warm temperatures on Saturday, October 25 for the 10th, and final, annual Team Tammy event. Nearly 150 people turned out for the event which raised $4,500 to help local families battling cancer.
The organization has raised over $50,000 since its founding in 2005 and has been able to benefit 100 local cancer patients. Participants were dressed in tie-dye to symbolize the many different cancer types that have affected the community.
Saturday’s bible verse came from the book of Hebrews 12:1, “Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” Jamie Koniak started the event with a prayer and Mike Bertagnolli of Bert’s DJ Service emceed the event. Participants enjoyed bagels and refreshments prior to the races.
Macoupin Family Practice grabbed the prize for largest group for the fifth straight year after 50 participants joined together for this year’s event. Tammy McCollum and Tammy York, who deemed themselves as the Cancer Crusaders, took home two prizes: Prettiest in Pink and Most Spirited.
Tammy Rosentreter, who inspired a group of middle school students to launch Team Tammy 10 years ago, was dressed as the Energizer bunny along with her husband, Jerry, and daughter, Tess. In support of the Rosentreter family, Tammy’s friends and co-workers ran the race with them while being awarded the second largest group.
Winners of the 1-mile race were Tess Rosentreter and Andrew Sellers while husband and wife team John and Katie Ronald were the winners of the 5K race.
