Benefits United Methodist Missions Work Team

UMMWT is hosting at Trivia Night on February 18th, doors open at 6:30 with playing starting at 7:00.

Prizes will be paid to 1st and 2nd place. Soda, coffee ,water and popcorn will be provided. Money raised will go towards, local and Henderson, Ky. missions projects.

Please come out and enjoy an evening of FUN!

American Red Cross Hosts Blood Drive at Mt. Olive VFW on May 29

The American Red Cross is proud to partner with the Mt. Olive VFW to host an upcoming blood drive on Thursday, May 29th, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This important community event aims to help save lives and provide critical blood supplies.

Presenting donors will receive an exclusive American Red Cross solar lantern, available while supplies last. Additionally, all donors will be automatically entered for a chance to win a U.S. trip of their choice for two — an exciting opportunity to explore new destinations.

Appointments are encouraged to ensure a smooth donation process, but walk-ins are also welcome. To save time on the day of the drive, donors are encouraged to complete RapidPass online on the day of the event.

L&C and CJD to hold e-waste drive May 2 and 3

GODFREY – Lewis and Clark Community College and CJD E-Cycling will host a community E-Waste event from 9 a.m. to noon, Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3, in the Tolle Lane parking lot across from the college’s Godfrey Campus.

Most items will be accepted for free, providing community members with a secure, Earth-friendly option for discarding used electronics.

The following is a sampling of the items that will be accepted:

  • Servers
  • Switches, PC towers
  • Printers
  • Landline phones
  • Cable boxes
  • Cell phones
  • Wireless modems
  • Servers
  • Audio and video equipment
  • Holiday lights
  • Home electronics
  • Lead acid batteries
  • CRT, Console, Projection, Plasma, and Flat Screen TVs and computer monitors. (Please note that CRT, Projection, Plasma, Console, and Flat Screen TVs will be accepted with a minimal charge between $5 and $35 based on size; computer monitors with no tower will be accepted with a minimal charge of $5-$10.)
  • Dehumidifiers and Refrigerators ($5-$10 each)

The following items will NOT be accepted:

  • Radioactive materials
  • Alkaline batteries
  • Light bulbs
  • Household smoke detectors
  • Hazardous materials (oil/antifreeze/paint)
  • Non-electronics (tires/wood/asbestos/office waste/furniture/fiberglass/insulation/roofing/dirt),
  • Flammable materials
  • Other hazardous materials (pesticides/oil filters/air bags/lead/mercury switches/fluorescent lights), Explosives (firearms/ammunition/shells)
  • DVDs and CDs
  • Cassette tapes
  • VHS tapes

Blood drive scheduled in Gillespie on May 12

The Gillespie community is proud to partner with ImpactLife to host a Community Blood Drive on Monday, May 12 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Gillespie Methodist Church Gym, located at 900 Broadway.

This vital event offers community members an opportunity to help save lives by donating blood, which is essential for patients in local hospitals and medical facilities. The blood drive is open to donors of all eligible ages and backgrounds.

When: Monday, May 12th, 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Where: Gillespie Methodist Church Gym, 900 Broadway, Gillespie, IL

Donor Eligibility:
Potential donors must be at least 17 years old (or 16 with parental permission available online), weigh over 110 pounds, and present a valid photo ID. Donors who have given blood on or before March 17, 2025, are eligible to participate. Individuals with controlled diabetes or high blood pressure may also be eligible to donate. The blood donation process is safe, quick, and typically takes 45 minutes to an hour. It is a simple procedure that can make a significant difference in the lives of patients in need.
