
The winners from the 2018 spelling bee hosted by ROE #40.
Two students of the Gillespie Community Unit School District brought home second place at the annual Regional Office of Education #40 spelling bee hosting in Carlinville on Wednesday, February 28.
Finishing second for the district was sixth-grader Bryce Hohnsbehn, a student at Gillespie Middle School, and fifth-grader Landen Emelander, a student at Ben-Gil Elementary School.
Other top finishers include:
- 8th grade: Owen Griffiths, Carlinville (first place) and Eli Ratcliff, Carlinville (second place)
- 7th grade: Lacey Bramley, Northwestern (first place) and Raymond Schneider, North Mac (second place)
- 6th grade: Roland Thyer, Bunker Hill (first place) and Bryce Hohnsbehn, Gillespie Middle (second place)
- 5th grade: Ava Fernandez, Zion Lutheran Staunton (first place) and Landen Emelander, Ben-Gil Elementary (second place)
- 4th grade: Harrison Yeager, Carlinville (first place) and Charlie Bono, Mt. Olive (second place)
