On Saturday, December 21 the Wrestling Wildcats participated in the 16 team Cumberland Invitational Tourney at Toledo Cumberland High School. Mt. Olive scored 120 team points to win the fifth place plaque behind Decatur Eisenhower (132), Cumberland (134), Benton (163), and Shelbyville (247). Lee Welch, Shon Calvert, Kurtis Lee, and Chris Fyffe were second in their weight class. Justin Fyffe was fourth at his weight class. Braden Barnes was fifth, and Tim Hancock was sixth at their weight classes.
Lee Welch at 126 won by fall, won 11 – 6, and lost the championship bout by default to score 22 team points. Shon Calvert at 152 won 13 – 1, won 16 – 12, and lost by fall in the championship bout to score 20 team points.
Kurtis Owens at 170 won by fall, won by fall, and lost by fall in the championship bout to score 20 team points. Chris Fyffe at 285 won by fall, won by fall, and lost by fall in the championship bout to score 24 team points.
Justin Fyffe at 182 lost by fall, won by fall, and lost the third place bout by fall to score 15 team points. Tim Hancock at 195 lost by fall, won by fall, and lost by fall in the fifth place bout to score 6 team points.
Braden Barnes at 113 lost by fall, won by injury default, and won by fall to place fifth and score 8 team points.
The Wildcats will be making up the Sacred Heart Griffin and Riverton meet on January 7th at Sacred Heart with wrestling scheduled to begin at 6 pm. The Wildcats host their own 15 team tourney on Saturday, January 11 with wrestling scheduled to begin at 9:30 AM.
