The Mt. Olive and Gillespie coop wrestling team placed seventh in the 14 team Mt. Olive Invitational Tournament held last Saturday, January 9, after scoring 97.5 team points.
The Wrestling Wildcats finished behind Whitfield – 232 points, Harrisburg – 183 points, Carlinville – 167 points, Rochester – 140 points, Wood River – 138 points and Pickneyville – 126 points. Behind Mt. Olive, Carlyle scored 93 points, Hillsboro 79, St. Thomas More 38, Chatham JV 53, Metro East Lutheran 30, Mt. Zion JV 12 and Mt. Olive JV 5.
Maxx Fritz won his weight class at 145 and scored 23 team points after winning by fall, winning by decision 6-0, and winning by major decision 14-2.
Jonny Darrah scored the second most team points with 21 after he finished in the runner-up position at 152 after winning by technical fall, winning 4-0 and losing 3-1. Dylan Roberts scored the third most team points with 14 wrestling at 182 and placing fourth. Roberts won 17-1, lost by fall and lost by fall.
Gavin Bertoldi finished third and scored 12.5 team points, Jacob Whited at 106 and Justin Fyffe each scored 10 team points, Branson Stevenson at 160 scored 4 team points, Austin Mitchell at 170 and Ryan Reid at 120 each wrestled and lost two matches.
Justin Osmoe represented the Wildcats as a JV entry. Justin won 7-5, lost by fall, won by fall, and lost 7-6 to score 5 team points for the Mt. Olive JV.
The Wrestlers wrestled Jerseyville and Roxana on Tuesday of this week at Jerseyville and wrestle Wood River and Highland at Mt. Olive on Wednesday of this week with wrestling scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. each night.
Junior varsity wrestlers travel to Chatham Glenwood to participate in their tourney this weekend.
