Emil Lawrence Fritz, 86 of Sawyerville, died at his residence on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at 7:32 p.m. He was born on September 1, 1929, in Sawyerville to Emil G. Fritz and Anna (Mitchell) Fritz Emmons. He married Ruby J. (Smith) Fritz on January 15, 1954, in Wichita, KS. She preceded him in death on January 7, 2000.
He was retired after having worked as maintenance for Owens Illinois Glass Manufacturing. Emil was a 1947 graduate of Benld High School and was a veteran after having served in the US Air Force during Korea from 1951-1954. He maintained the water department in the Village of Sawyerville for over 20 years and was on the board of trustees for the Village of Sawyerville.
Emil was a member of the Masonic Lodge 214 AF and AM of Gillespie, Easter Star of Gillespie, Ansar Shrine of Springfield, Mt. Olive Area AMVETS, Scottish Rites and Knights Templar. He was also an avid gardener, Route 66 supporter and creator of Route 66 and Veterans Memorial Sign.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary K. Fritz of Gillespie, IL, Patricia A. (Rory) Makler of Staunton, IL; sons, Emil L. (Tianna) Fritz Jr of Gillespie, IL, John A. Fritz of Gillespie, IL; grandchildren, Angie (Joseph) Sarti, Shanna (Tony) Jones, Jacob Fritz, Nicole (Brad) Stocker, Jessica (Matt) Larsen, Christopher Makler, Maxx Fritz, Mikayla Fritz; 5 great grandchildren; siblings, Charles (Linda) Fritz of Virden, IL, Kathy Harrison of Gillespie, IL, Raymond (Donna) Fritz of Gillespie, IL, James Thomas (Shirley) Fritz of Independence, MO; 1 niece, and 8 nephews.
Emil was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, step mother, Beatrice Fritz and brothers, Robert Frank Fritz and Herman Fritz.
Visitation services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015, at Kravanya Funeral Home in Benld from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Easter Star Services will be held at 6:40 p.m. and Masonic Services will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Nancy Ribes officiating. Burial will be at Benld Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to St. Louis Shriners Hospital Activity Fund or Disabled American Veterans Transportation.
