Norman Joseph Halpin, 82, of Gillespie passed away at 12:35 am Thursday, March 31st at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.
He was born on September 28, 1928, in Litchfield, IL, son of the late John Halpin & Ethel (Pierard) Halpin. He married Mary (Harris) Halpin on June 12, 1949 in Pocahontas, AR. He was a retired welder for A.O. Smith, and he worked for the City of Gillespie Water Department from 1981-1992. He was one of the Coordinators and a Former President of the Central Illinois Sports League. He was active as a Coach and Manager of the Gillespie Boys and Girls Teams. He was a member of the Gillespie Welfare Park Association and an avid sportsman especially duck hunter.
He was preceded in his death by parents, John Halpin & Ethel (Pierard) Halpin; son, John Robert Halpin; brother, Peter Halpin.
Surviving relatives include spouse, Mary Halpin of Gillespie, IL; son, Bill (Spouse, Tammy) Halpin of Gillespie, IL; daughter, Mary Jo (Spouse, Jim) Bunge of Gillespie, IL; 7 grandchildren, Jamie Gansz, Julie Goldasich, Allie Zaloudek, Abbie Bunge, Laura Halpin, Ellie Halpin, and Macie Halpin.
Visitation will be on on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie, IL from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
Funeral will be on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie, IL. Minister will be Monsignor Larry Auda. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Gillespie, IL.
Memorials may be made to Welfare Park, Gillespie High School Softball Team or Donor’s Choice.
