To help celebrate Valentine’s Day, Gillespie High School students created art to support Positive Exposure, a non-profit organization in New York City, that promotes a more inclusive world through award-winning photography, films, exhibitions, lectures and educational programs.
Gillespie’s submissions included artworks from Bella Wallace, Hannah Barrett, and Samantha Jensen.
Positive Exposure showcased their East Harlem Wall of Love on February 14. The showcase was a colorful graphic display with the word “love” written in over 100 languages that was designed by artist Marco Santini.
Reaching out to communities near and far, Positive Exposure asked for help in creating an art installation as an extension of the Wall of Love. With artwork submitted from all over the world, students from Gillespie High School addressed “the theme of light, love, unity, and inclusion” and created a variety of drawings illustrating their chosen theme.
Over twenty students submitted art to Positive Exposure. Liz Grossman, Executive Director of the organization, thought the submissions were fantastic and was excited that our students were participating. Members of Positive Exposure displayed the art on luminary bags at the base of The Wall of Love, which was presented at a pop-up installation on Valentine’s Day via Facebook Live.
