Greetings,
On behalf of the Board of Education and administration, welcome to the 2014-15 school year. This exciting time is the beginning of many changes in our school district. Teachers, staff members, students and parents are all important members of the educational community. It takes a community effort to provide the excellent education available to all students in CUSD #7. I look forward to working with all staff members to make a positive impact on all students.
The new year brings a renewed commitment to academic excellence. All teachers and support staff remain committed to preparing students to compete in a global economy. This endeavor places an emphasis on a combination of the basics, college readiness standards and real life skills. The Board of Education approved the purchase and implementation of a new elementary/middle school mathematics textbook series as well as a revised high school mathematics curriculum. Similarly, language arts departments have continued to make improvements to positively impact the culture of literacy. In addition, all curricula and classroom assessments will be aligned to the New Illinois Learning Standards. These assessments place an emphasis on problem solving skills. Similarly, upgrades in technology continue as students have access to important information at an unprecedented level.
Improving district facilities continues to be a top priority.
Rebuilding the tornado damaged high school gymnasium and television communications complex is complete. In addition, the replacement of heating/air conditioning rooftop units and replacement of the high school roof are nearing completion. Plans are being finalized for improved security measures at the middle/high school including the installation of “buzz in “systems at most entrances and secondary interior security walls. These building improvements will help to create a safe and efficient learning environment.
District administrators continue to recruit outstanding educators. New staff members include: Middle/ High School Guidance Counselor Kalli Baker; elementary school teacher Amy Gerdes; elementary school teacher Jake Bilbruck; high school math teacher Kyle Kozer; speech pathologist Kenna Moats and paraprofessional Shelia Katich. I believe each new staff member will be a welcome addition.
In closing, I invite the community to partner with the school district to continue to provide an outstanding education to all students. Our mission is to create life-long learners ready to make a positive impact on the world. CUSD #7 stands ready to accept the challenge.
Sincerely,
Joseph Tieman
Superintendent
