LAWSUITS
Sherri L. Selph, Bunker Hill, is suing Brylie S. Hassard, Staunton, for damages in excess of $50,000 for injuries she allegedly sustained in a June 26, 2015, traffic crash on Dorchester Road at Windy Hill Road. The suit, which demands a jury trial, claims that Hassard was driving a westbound vehicle on Windy Hill Road when she allegedly failed to yield at the intersection, causing her vehicle to collide with the front of a northbound vehicle driven by Selph on Dorchester Road. The suit claims Hassard was negligent in that she allegedly failed to keep a proper lookout for other vehicles, failed to keep her vehicle under proper control, failed to slow the speed of her vehicle to avoid the collision, failed to yield at the intersection and operated a vehicle with inadequate brakes. Selph claims to have sustained injuries to her head, spine, back, body and limbs as a result of the crash. She seeks a monetary judgment for her injuries, medical expenses, disability and disfigurement, and pain and suffering.
Kenneth Whitley has filed a complaint in replevin against Debra M. Whitley-Walch and Ryan A. Watch, claiming he is the rightful owner of property worth $50,000 to $80,000 that allegedly has been unlawfully detained but the defendants. The contested property includes a jon boat and trailer, chainsaw, lawn mower, three-wheel ATV, tractor and motor case, aluminum grain bin, a cow and three calves, jewelry and other pieces of livestock and agricultural equipment. The suit seeks possession of the property, a judgment for the value of property not returned to the plaintiff, and damages for the wrongful detention of the property.
Chuck and Patricia Jarman has filed a forcible entry and detainer complaint against Michael and Kendra Mitchusson, Gillespie, seeking possession only of residential premises located in the 800 block of South Macoupin Street in Gillespie.
Gibbel Home Services/Kyle Gibbel, Carlinville, has filed a forcible entry and detainer complaint against Kevin and Heather Noting, Virden, seeking $845 in alleged unpaid rent, plus possession of a residential apartment located in the 200 block of South Springfield Street in Virden.
SMALL CLAIMS
Darrell Sievers and Patricia Ridens, New Douglas, are suing Dennis and Tiffany Martin, Carlinville, for $4,497, plus court costs, they claim is owed for an allegedly bad check written to them for parts.
Denise Witsman, Overland Park, Kansas, is suing Robert and Brittany Bell, Litchfield, for $4,810.27 that she claims is owed for unpaid rent, theft and damage to property.
Consumer Collection Management is suing William L. and Brenda K. Price, Gillespie, for $2,538.76, plus court costs, that the plaintiff claims is owed for medical bills. The judgment sought includes $1,999.05 allegedly owed to St. Francis Hospital, Litchfield, $377.89 alleged owed to St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, and $161.82 allegedly owed to Litchfield Family Practice.
FELONIES
Trista R. Cormier, 44, Nilwood, is charged with threatening a public official in connection with a June 5 incident during which she allegedly verbally communicated to the Nilwood Village Clerk a threat to “kill” the Village Board due to an ordinance citation issued to Cormier.
David J. Karrick, 36, Carlinville, is charged with possession of a controlled substance in connection with a May 1 incident in Carlinville during which he allegedly possessed a substance containing FUB-AMB, a synthetic designer drug substitute for cannabis.
Robert D. Lindsey, 28, Chesterfield, is charged with possession of a controlled substance in connection with an April 24 incident in Carlinville during which he allegedly possessed a substance containing FUB-AMB, a synthetic designer drug substitute for cannabis.
Christopher J. Gibbs, 34, Nilwood, is charged with failing to register as a sex offender as of May 24 for allegedly failing to update his address with the Macoupin County State’s Attorney within three days of changing his place of residence.
MISDEMEANORS
Carl L. Stark, 38, Carlinville, is charged with violating a court order of protection in connection with a June 13 incident during which he allegedly came within 500 feet of a female subject to a court order of protection issues on May 9.
William Werner, 21, Gillespie, is charged with criminal trespass to property in connection with a June 13 incident in Staunton during which he allegedly remained upon property after receiving notice to depart from the property owner.
Rebecca L. McGown, 26, Virden, is charged with violating a court order of protection in connection with a June 13 in Virden incident during which she allegedly came within 500 feet of a male subject to an order of protection issued Feb. 4.
Alexander S. Costanzo, 26, Ackley, Iowa, is charged with domestic battery in connection with a June 4 incident in Staunton during which he allegedly caused bodily harm by grabbing his girlfriend by her throat and squeezing.
Nicholas T. Abbott, 31, Virden, is charged with resisting a peace officer in connection with a June 12 incident during which he allegedly ran away from a Virden police officer who had lawfully detained him.
Kelly L. Moore, 39, Brighton, is charged with criminal trespass to a residence in connection with a June 11 incident during which she allegedly entered a residence without the authority of the occupant.
Nathan A. Peeler, 24, Virden, is charged with violating a court order of protection in connection with a May 25 incident during which he allegedly sent a message to a female subject to an order of protection issued Jan. 3.
Lindsey N. Portugal, 38, Staunton, is charged with domestic battery in connection with a June 7 incident during which she allegedly made contact of an insulting or provoking nature by punching her husband in his face.
Benjamin F. Pagel, Sr., 59, Carlinville, is charged with battery and resisting a peace officer in connection with a June 3 incident during which he allegedly struck a male victim in the face with his closed fist and pulled away from a Carlinville police officer who was placing Pagel under arrest.
TRAFFIC
Johnny L. Blankley, 32, Bend, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with a June 10 incident.
Charles R. Tauchert, 44, Carlinville, is charged with driving under the influence of an intoxicating compound or drug in connection with a June 17 incident. In addition, Tauchert faces traffic citations for allegedly driving on a suspended driver’s license, operating an uninsured vehicle, driving reckless, operating a vehicle with unsafe equipment and improper lane usage.
Michael A. Jones, 27, Girard, is charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with a June 10 incident. He also faces a traffic charge for improper lane usage.
Adam R. Gaffney, 25, Litchfield, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with June 16 incident. He also faces a traffic charge for improper lane usage.
James E. Wilson, 54, Carlinville, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with a June 17 incident. Additionally, he faces traffic charges for allegedly driving on a revoked driver’s license and disregarding a traffic control device.

Staunton man found guilty of criminal sexual assault

BenGil StaffA verdict was rendered on Tuesday in about 35 minutes for a Staunton man who was found guilty of criminal sexual assault.
Dillard Dehart Jr., 66 of Staunton, was charged with the offense on February 17, 2022, after his niece had accused him of the offense and had secretly recorded parts of the offense.
The secretly recorded videos were played for the jury, according to Macoupin County State’s Attorney Jordan Garrison who called multiple witnesses and tried the case.
Sentencing for Dehart Jr. is set for October 4, 2023.
