Harold D. Smith Sr., 85 of Gillespie, died at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield on January 23, 2023, at 3:35 a.m. He was born on October 1, 1937, in Gillespie to Irvin Smith and Ruth Hazel Dillard Smith.
He married Lindia M. Crocker Smith on July 25, 1959. He was a retired coal miner for Monterey Coal Co. He was a veteran of the US Navy after having served during Korea. Harold was a member of the UMWA. He loved trucks, fast cars, and western movies.
He is survived by his spouse, Lindia Smith of Gillespie; children, David (Tracy) Smith of Gillespie, Barry Smith of Gillespie, and Lori (Joe) Sneed of Glen Carbon; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Ruth Ann Miller of Gillespie, Junior Smith of Valley Park, MO, and Ralph (Rose) Smith of East Alton.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents and son, Harold Smith Jr.
Friends may call on Friday, January 27, 2023, at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. Funeral services are Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 11:00 am at Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie. Burial will be at Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Carlinville.
