The Indians baseball team (13-3) won sectionals this afternoon with a 6-0 victory over Pittsfield in Raymond. The Gillespie Middle School team is now among 8 other teams vying for the State Championship. The team travels to Peoria on Friday, September 30, to face Beecher (9-5) in the first round.
The team had 7 hits with three players each recording a double in the matchup: Cameron Hailstone, Ayden Madeline (double, single, RBI) and Zane Cunningham. Preston Kaylor and Jack Herron each had one hit and one RBI in the contest. Madeline pitched all seven innings for Gillespie only throwing 95 pitches, striking out 14 and walking two.
