In a 2010 campaign created by American Express, Small Business Saturday continues to grow each year. The first Saturday after Thanksgiving encourages consumers to shop their community to help independent businesses throughout the nation.
In the BenGil area, consumers have many businesses to choose from whether they are looking for Christmas gifts or satisfying their appetite. Our local businesses provide quality products, unmatched service and most importantly, always have an open line of communication.
Here are the top reasons why you need to stay local and shop small:
- Our businesses are the soul of the community. Money spent in BenGil gets reinvested in the community over and over again. Miles for Michael, the Gillespie dance team or Team Tammy wouldn’t have the support they do without the support of local restaurants, dealerships, doctor’s offices and senior living facilities.
- You know the business owners. Knowing the people and their family make all the difference when you’re buying anything from a pizza to a washer. They are willing to go above and beyond to make help you with your purchase, make sure you’re satisfied with it and then helping you if anything goes wrong with it. Take Hicks Maytag for example, they service all of their products and deliver your new products for free while removing your old one at the same time. You won’t find that quality of service from a big box store.
- They give back. Every organization is so eager to ask for a donation from all of the local businesses and many businesses help out whenever they can. Whether it’s paying for a sponsorship on the back of t-shirts or a local business like Roma’s making 15 pizzas for the high school football team before Friday night lights.
- You’ll create jobs. Local businesses create jobs that often pay better than those at chain stores. When you support local businesses, they turn back to the community to hire help whether it be a gas station attendant, pharmacy technician or an instructor at the local fitness center.
- We will all strengthen the community. With area residents supporting our local businesses, we support our neighbors who then enrich the community. Our businesses are owned by people who eat at our local restaurants, attend local churches, coach youth leagues and walk around during Italian American Days or Black Diamond Days. They truly care about the community and the people in it.
