It is week three already of the Coal Country Chamber of Commerce Seventh Annual Summer Concert Series. Good times are rolling through and if you are not at the Benld City Park, consider yourself left out. Music begins at 7pm and concessions open at 6pm. Today they will be offering hot dogs, “big smokies”, Italian beef, soda and water, and strawberry shortcake sundaes.
The concerts have brought a huge attendance to the park the past two weeks and with the lineup scheduled for the rest of this month, it looks like it will stay that way. The Steam Rollers Band will be in the spotlight tonight which features a four person group based out of St. Louis. The band is very well-known and extremely popular in the Metro-east area. Let’s make them feel popular here in Benld as well!
The four person group consists of drummer/vocalist Chris LeTrello, vocalist/bass player Greg Blank, vocalist/keyboardist Julie Blank, and guitarist/vocalist, Rich Kasznal. They are scheduled to perform a wide variety of musical styles from Gretchen Wilson and Bonnie Raitt to the Blues Brothers and Rolling Stones. Their repertoire includes blues, country and folk music.
Patrons should bring their own lawn chairs, their dancing shoes and an appetite while they enjoy the free concert. Parking is free as well and the weather is forecasted to be on the warm side as the weather will cool down from a 91 degree high. Winds will keep the sweat away as wind speeds are forecasted to be in the vicinity of 15mph.
