GHS Chorus Annual Carwash & Cookout

When? Saturday, August 27

Time? 9:00am – 1:00pm

Where? Randy’s Market in Gillespie

What? Chorus students will be washing cars and the chour parents will be selling pork burgers and pork chop sandwiches. The carwash will be by donation. All proceeds will be used to support Chorus activities during the school year and the spring trip.

Veterans appreciation dinner set for November 9 at Progressive Club

A free appreciation dinner for all local veterans will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, sponsored by and held at The Wilsonville Progressive Club.

At this annual dinner, the TWPClub doors will open at 2 p.m. and the 21-Gun Salute & Taps Ceremony will be held at 2:30 p.m. Dinner will follow the ceremony starting at 3 p.m. where everyone will join together honor our veterans. 

All local veterans are invited to attend this free catered event.

Community blood drive scheduled in Gillespie on November 11

Gillespie Community will host a Community Blood Drive with ImpactLife, the provider of blood components for local hospitals. The blood drive will be from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Monday, November 11 at 900 Broadway, inside Gillespie Methodist Church Gym.

To donate, please contact Brenda Lowe at (217) 710 1336 or visit www.bloodcenter.org and use code 60020 to locate the drive. You may also call ImpactLife to schedule at 800-747-5401. Appointments are requested.

Potential donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 with parental permission form available through www.bloodcenter.org) and weigh more than 110 pounds. A photo I.D. is required to donate.  For questions about eligibility, please call ImpactLife at (800) 747 5401. Donors who last gave blood on or before 9/16/24 are eligible to give at this drive.

Benld library to host family reading night on November 7

Celebrate Family Reading Night with the South Macoupin Head Start and the Benld Public Library on Thursday, November 7.  The fun begins at 6:00 at the library located at 308 East Central Avenue. 

The guest reader will be Illinois author Debra Daugherty. Debra has published three picture books, a young adult novel, and short stories. As a child, she had a pet cow named Tammy.

Following the story, the Head Start Center located next door will offer pizza, fun games and activities. 

Family Reading Night is held to encourage families to read and have fun with their children. This event is free and open to all ages of our community to attend. For more information, please call the library at 217-835-4045.
