SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2012
Officer was called to the 300 block of Park Ave. for a domestic in progress where the male had already left when the officer arrived. The residence was all dark but the officer found out the male had pulled the power before leaving. Charges are pending for the male, interference with emergency communication.
Officer took a report from a female who was receiving harassing phone calls from her ex-husband. He was contacted and advised that charges could be filed.
Officer took another report from a female who was receiving text messages from an ex-boyfriend who stated he stayed in her apartment all night when she wasn’t there without her permission.
He was contacted and advised that if he called, text or came to her apartment, he would be arrested.
Officer took a report from a female in the 600 block of South Street who had been receiving harassing text messages from two different individuals. They were contacted and advised that charges could be filed.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2012
James M. Brawner, 31, Gillespie was cited for improper lane usage.
Ashley A. Cochran, 24, Livingston was arrested on a warrant out of Macoupin County for unlawful possession of a controlled substance. She was transported to Macoupin County jail.
After making a traffic stop on a vehicle that failed to use a turn signal, the driver, William C. Stephens, 37, Gillespie was cited for no valid drivers license but arrested on a warrant out of Louisiana for parole violation. Also, a passenger, Nikki S. Kopp, 39, Gillespie was arrested on a warrant out of Madison County for failure to appear on driving while revoked. They were both transported to Macoupin County jail.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2012
Barbara J. Grant, 50, Sorento was cited for failure to report an accident to the Police after she hit a vehicle in the school parking lot and left the scene. She was located later in Benld.
Officer took a report from a female subject who had been receiving threatening text messages. The other female was called and advised that charges could be filed against her.
Officer was called to the 200 block of S. Macoupin for domestic between a male and his girlfriend. She was moving out and they were arguing about what she could take. She just took her personal belongings. After she left, the male told the officer that she had slapped and punched him but he didn’t report it because she left.
Officers received a call to the 500 block of Western where subject were ringing a door bell and then running. Also, the subject left in a vehicle using a PA system. The officers received another call about the PA system in the 600 block of Charles St. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, Steven W. Laurent, 20, Mt. Olive was cited for driving without lights when required and having no insurance. Auston M Ursch, 18, Wilsonville was cited for disturbing the peace after he advised he was the one using the PA system.
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2011
Craig P. Barnes, 23, Gillespie was arrested on a warrant out of Montgomery County for failure to appear on a consumption of liquor by a minor. He was transported to District 18 and released to a Montgomery County deputy.
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2012
Officer was called to the 400 block of E. Elm for a female refusing the leave the residence. The female had bit her husband’s lip drawing blood because she was upset with him. Christine L. Bourland, 44, Gillespie was arrested for domestic battery and transported to Macoupin County jail.
Officer was called to the high school for a female student who had a knife in her possession. She was released to her mother.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2012
Officer took a report from a female who is missing her expensive wedding band since November. She believes that someone was in her house at one time and might have taken it, as they haven’t had any break-ins.
Officer was called to the 200 block of E. Oak for a burglary and theft of several items. A crime scene tech with Illinois State Police was called and came out to process the scene. This case is under investigation.

Police search for suspects after robbery at Besserman Superbowl

BenGil StaffPolice in Gillespie are searching for at least two people involved in an early morning break-in and robbery that happened early Wednesday at Besserman Superbowl.
The bowling alley said on their Facebook page the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23. The suspects compromised the ATM and a gaming machine. The business’s security measures and a quick response from the Gillespie Police Department limited the suspects time inside the establishment to under 10 minutes but substantial damage was sustained.
Temporary repairs were made quickly and normal business hours were not interrupted for Besserman Superbowl but no arrests have been made. Anyone with information about the incident or the individuals involved are urged to contact the Gillespie Police Department at 217-839-2922.
“We appreciate the outpouring of support from our patrons, friends, and family in response to the break-in yesterday morning,” Besserman Superbowl posted on their Facebook page. “We value your loyalty and anticipate serving you soon at our renowned bowling alley and friendly community hub.”

An officer was dispatched to Route 16 and East Elm Street in reference to a traffic crash. Larry D. Darr, 74 of Benld, was issued a citation for operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
An officer was dispatched to a business in the 100 block of East Maple Street in reference to criminal trespass.
